Volk’s Railway, Brighton
Client Name: Brighton & Hove County Council
Role: Cost Manager
Located along Brighton seafront, Volk’s Railway comprises of two sites.
The first site saw the demolition of an existing station building and construction of a new station and visitor centre. Given the beachfront location, RLF advised the use of prefabrication, with the project benefiting from both programme and monetary savings. The scheme comprised of three prefabricated SIPs units, manufactured offsite and craned into position. They house the Volks Station, a visitor centre and café styled as a train carriage.
The second site involved the demolition and construction of a new conservation workshop with viewing gallery. This comprised of four areas; a sidings for carriage storage, a restoration area, a track line that ran through the sheds to enable passengers to view the restoration area and a viewing gallery/visitor hub. The external façade was a steel frame with rainscreen cladding panels on metsec.
