The primary objective of The Open Market scheme was to enhance the underused and neglected historic market place, creating greater investment and employment opportunities.
The mixed-use development comprised 45 open market stalls surrounding a square for temporary/pop up trading, 12 workshops and 87 affordable residential units.
The new glazed canopy provided a sustainable covering, allowing the use of the open market all year round.
This project was shortlisted for ‘Development of the Year’ (Large schemes) for the UK Housing Awards 2014 and at the 2015 RICS Awards in the ‘Community Benefit and Regeneration’ category.
