National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS), Glasgow
Client Name: University of Strathclyde
Role: Cost Manager
RLF is providing cost management services for the development of the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS), whose planning application has now been submitted to be considered by Renfrewshire Council.
Hosted by the University of Strathclyde, NMIS aims to make Scotland a global leader in advanced manufacturing. NMIS will bring industry, research and the wider public sector together to increase the development of productivity and skills, enabling a variety of Scottish companies to become globally competitive.
Adjacent to Glasgow International Airport, NMIS will include working spaces that will accompany the existing University of Strathclyde’s Advanced Forming Research Centre (AFRC). The industry-led international centre will also include a Digital Factory 2050 and a Manufacturing Skills Academy.
Receiving £48m from the Scottish Government and £8m from the University of Strathclyde, the investment will be the anchor for the Advanced Manufacturing Innovation District Scotland (AMIDS). To provide the AMIDS’ enabling infrastructure, the Glasgow City Region Deal will fund a £39 million investment. NMIS will benefit from £9m in the Lightweight Manufacturing Centre, which will provide Phase One of the development.
