Malling Brooks Unit F, Lewes
Client Name: North Street Quarter
Role: Cost Management, Project Management and Employer’s Agent
Unit F is the first of seven industrial units to be constructed on the Malling Brooks Site. The warehouse includes manufacturing, packaging and laboratory areas and was developed for John Gosnell and Son, one of the oldest family businesses in Lewes.
The end-user was very specific in their requirements for a high-quality production and packaging facility incorporating Cat 3 Laboratories for their bespoke pharmaceutical and food packaging. In order to reduce operational costs, the unit has one of the largest solar power and solar thermal installations in Lewes nestling on their sedum roof to reduce groundwater as it is constructed in a flood zone.
As Project Manager, RLF worked with the developer and the end-user to ensure that Gosnell and Son requirements were met. RLF also managed stakeholder liaison with the local residents who over-look the site, regularly producing newsletter updates to keep them informed of progress.
As it was a brownfield site, RLF were required to work directly with all the utilities suppliers and bring new utilities into the site. This included providing for a new UKPN sub-station.
